It just flopped around without actually doing its job, and. The truck has some history in my family also. Yes Review Date: 22nd September, 2002. It has stock suspension with 31 inch tires. I hit a light pole at 35mph, crushing the front end of the truck.
My dad had an '84 Toyota 4x4 Xtra cab he bought in '87 and swapped a small block chevy V8 in to it in the early-mid '90s. But a lift is coming to the stud truck. The only things that are still original are the break booster and the seat. The most difficult was the main seal, and that only took a few hours. Had the head sent out, machined, and reinstalled.
I've gotten about 20 mpg since I bought her, and, should I ever figure out exactly why the engine runs so rich turning the mixture setting screw has been to no avail thus far , that number should improve. Brand new paint job about 2 months ago and I took this picture right when i get it back. Factory experts prepare these manuals for their dealership service departments, so they're the most complete and specific source of repair techniques. No luckily i haven't needed to replace to rocker panels on mine and i dont see any rust on them so i think im good for now. I wouldn't drive it there for long, though, in a four-speed. Went all the way to Sacramento to pick up a 5 speed in stock. That is by far the cleanest '78-'83 toyota I have seen in the past decade, possibly the past two decades.
The odometer is gone from this truck, so there's no telling how many miles this engine lasted. It was a very simple replace and flush. Toyota will have my business for life! A V8 is a perfect match. This however, did not prevent the truck from being driven. I'm on my way to wind the odometer for the third time! The choke simply had a spring mis-aligned, and a new circuit was run for the fuel pump.
No damage was done to the transmission or flywheel. This is the very first, introductory video of my 1988 Toyota 4x4 Pickup Truck I just bought on Jan 19, 2019! It really is a dream to work on; it's like working on a toy! And should i just copy and paste? Note that the odometer is only 5 major digits long so upon 99,999. In the process, the mechanic found and replaced a broken valve spring! The next thing to go wrong was the tail lights. Changed oil, spark plugs, and fuel filter when needed. . Leaked oil on occasion and on others it would go months without needing a quart.
The most recent failure was a bit more catastrophic. I'm kinda making it a wheeling truck. The truck has recently been through a ton of work and parts and it runs perfectly now. Super stoked to own it, learn more about it, restore it to some extent, and enjoy it as a second vehicle. Note that this part most likely has been the original part since the factory in 1980 so, it's real old. I cannot be sure how many miles are on it. I've always wanted a 5-speed to improve the truck's mileage anyway.
He often takes it up Mendocino National Park to go hunting which means he comes home empty handed, so it's really hiking! While an annoying breakdown, installation of a new seal was not amazingly difficult. The truck had weeds growing through it when I bought it for 200 dollars, and I replaced the clutch on the fan and rebuilt the carb, and have had it on the road since. To this day, third-gen Hiluxes are used as in the conflicts of Asia and Africa. I'm just talking about overall durability. This truck belongs to my dad in the Bay Area and he drives about 20-30 city miles a day, minimum. There are times when we go through rugged roads, sometimes with ice and muddy slush, and the truck keeps on trucking. There is no rust whatsoever! Toyota's own image library of their 4th gen pickups North American market :.
Yes Review Date: 11th April, 2004 Faults: Frame and body both rusted through. Fault goes to the previous owner for setting the V belt far too tight, which pulled the crankshaft over and loosened the seal. They've all been beaten to death on trails. Wiring diagrams are black and white, but they frequently have color codes printed on each line of the diagram that represents a wire. Anything below about 60 degrees Fahrenheit and one will begin to notice a significant performance drop. Problem is no matter how well the turbo is matched to the engine there will be lag.
No more problems with transmission to this day. Although the sad thing is, if you overloaded one of these and then overloaded a Super Duty, the Toyota would probably still be able to drive away after being unloaded. No more clutch problems to this day. Here's the nearly-unkillable 20R engine, rated at 90 horsepower. A lot of people have respect and love these old trucks so i thought I would share it. I average about 18-22mpg combined.
General Comments: I love this truck! Finding interior parts is very hard since there are no reproduction door cards or dash pads or plastics that I'm aware of. Will also delete on comment score of -1 or less. The tenths place on the odometer turns, but the rest of it has remained the same, despite driving it to school and work every day. The police and ambulance crews took one look at the truck and thought that someone had died. The faithful pickup protected us though. What did was that, upon a test drive, I discovered that it would die every time the engine was allowed to idle. Sorry to make is so long, I hope this helps someone.
